What I Learned This Fall

It's basically winter. So here is a collection of things I learned this fall.

Is it possibly time to do this again? I just wrote about summer. Alas, it’s true. This prompt comes from the lovely Emily Freeman. But of course I missed the actual link up, this is all on me. So here goes. What did I learn this Fall? I’m so glad you asked…

1| Elementary School is stressful.

Namely Kindergarten ’cause that is as far as we have gotten. I wrote about what a bad school mom I am, and why that’s just fine. But I’m just feeling the overwhelm still. Specifically with all of the holiday options. Even with being intentional like I wrote about here, there is just. so. much. Kindergarten is hard.

2| You can break out like a teenager in your, ahem, late 30’s.

And then you frantically try everything only to remember that you still need moisture on your face. Otherwise, it looks rough AND more importantly, you break out more. Like way more. So here is a tip my friends. If you find yourself breaking out more than normal, check to see if you are moisturizing enough. I did this scrub and then used rosehip seed oil and this moisturizer. Man, what a difference! The rosehip seed oil actually heals and helps reduce the dark spots. Amazing stuff. Now I’m working on some legit skincare posts to share more of my faves. Does that appeal to anyone?

3| You all love ham.

This post has been a hot one…as it should, because it’s fantastic. I promise though, don’t leave this gal out. This soup from the leftovers is truly one of the best soups we make around here.

4| Life is hard.

It has been a bit of a doozy fall around here. Family and friends going through incredibly painful times. When the people you love hurt, you hurt. My answer. Pray for them for real. Don’t just say you are going to.

5| We bought a lemon of a house.

If you know us at all, you know there is a constant hum of house drama in the background. We have lived here almost 8 years and love this place. It is home. It’s the perfect amount of space and many people feel like it is their home too. However, we have had to “fix” a great deal of expensive things that other people chose to do incorrectly. We didn’t buy it from flippers, but the people we bought it from, did. And we are paying their dues. The good news lately? I get a beautiful new bathroom I thought would never be on the list. More to come in the not too distant future.

6| I want to explore writing more.

One of things I love most about Made Frank is that I get to write. I get to explore my childhood dream and love. Unfortunately, much of blogging is not actually writing, and I get easily overwhelmed by all that it takes even to produce a simple post. While this place is not going anywhere, I’m toying with the idea of offering copywriting. Or content creation. So if you know anyone who needs some writing done…for a website, hard copy, anything really, let me know! I write a certain style here because that is who Made Frank is. But I have many voices in my head and at my fingertips ;-).

7| Silence and Solitude.

Did you know they are different? They are also two of the most difficult disciplines. But I’m learning how powerful they are. At least on occasion, because kids are not silent or solitary endeavors.

8| Mornings are my Kryptonite.

Ok, this is not something new that I learned this fall. More like a reiteration of what I know. But with deeper realization. Let’s just say this, unloving and unfair things happen in my home because this is an area I bend to the selfish, undisciplined side. I’m praying for strength and for God to reform this part of me. I will never be a 4 am person. But there has to be something better than what I am now. Anyone else an embarrassed non-morning person?

That’s it. Anyone else learn some stuff these last 3 months?

And if you missed how to be more intentional this holiday season, don’t miss my 1 thing that keeps me sane during the Holidays.
