Happy Friday! Whew. It’s been a whirlwind couple of months. With so much travel and visitors I’ve had very little time to write and engage here. I’m excited to get back to it! I have been wanting to start a little Friday routine where I can share random tidbits and fun things without dedicating a whole post for them. Not sure if it will stay a Friday thing, but I thought it was a great place to start.
Here’s my list for the week!
1| Kids say the darndest things, right? The boys and I were driving in the car the other day and one of them asked me to confirm that being first is always the best. Cue my pastor’s wife hat. “um actually buddy do you know Jesus says that last is actually the best?” They were quite dumbfounded and we started talking more about being last and how that often means serving the people in our lives. I asked if they could think of examples to serve. One brilliant little boy answered, “Oh I know! When one of our school friends (pronounced minus the L) goes poop, we can wipe for him.” Cringe. And laugh.
2| I think I mentioned this in my post on what I learned this winter, but Trader Joe’s cold brew is still on the daily docket. Milk, and a few drops of this Stevia extract and I feel like a human. I’m thinking of a Whole30 or Whole15 in a couple weeks, and I might cry genuine tears at the loss.
3| The last several weeks have been good book times in the Jenson household. One. Bret’s dream has been to read the Chronicles of Narnia to his children, and we have been doing it at bedtime. Aslan just died and you should hear the little boy’s roars running through our house. At night, Bret and I have been sitting out by our fire pit reading and it has been so wonderful. I just finished Home, by Elyse Fitzpatrick and Nothing to Prove, by Jennie Allen. Both were amazing. I also like to read books on productivity right now. Design Your Day by Claire Diaz-Ortiz was great and a quick read. Honestly, I read loads of junk mystery fiction from Kindle Unlimited and none of them are worthy of a specific mention. Love to have mindless reading time at night.
4| A little fact about me. I have been in strong rebellion against group exercise classes. MY WHOLE LIFE. Which is kinda silly since I played sports so much. But I think fear and pride have a lot to do with it. I feel like that is a whole post in itself. Long story short, I bought a groupon for Pilates. I have only been to one class. But y’all I think I love it. I’ll keep you posted…gulp…I have three classes next week!
5| Raise your hand if you have a bit of a uniform? Mine might vary a little with the season, but a white t-shirt is literally the Holy Grail for me. I might own 8. Or 10. I’m not sure. I have tried and tried to find ones that meet these criteria.
- You can’t see my bra through it.
- Soft but not slinky and too soft. Slinky and too soft and the tops of muffins do not flatter anyone.
- Does not pill.
- If it’s a v-neck, I hate having to think about my cleavage too often, and I don’t want other people to either.
My current attempt is this crewneck and this v-neck from Everlane. I will let you know how they meet my criteria. Does anyone have recommendations? Please??
6| Several weeks ago during some time with my small group women, we talked about how hard it is to turn our minds off. From just overwhelming thoughts, too many to-dos, dangerous self-talk and lies that bring shame, it feels impossible sometimes as a woman to shut it off. Hopeless even. But we started to talk about how Paul says in Romans that we can be transformed by renewing our minds. And I realized we can actually pray and ask the Holy Spirit to change our minds, to rewire how we think, if you will. I have since been trying to practice asking God to do just that when I am in the throes of unhealthy thoughts. It’s been pretty cool.
7| Last one. I need your help! I am planning to paint over the stripes that I labored so hard over and was so obsessed with in our bedroom. 8 years ago! But I am struggling with the color. I have wanted to go dark…like deep navy or charcoal for a long long time. But then the idea of going super light, i.e. white is intriguing. I’ll be brave someday and post a current pic when I have a chance. Our bedroom is a room in the house that has always gotten passed over. No one sees it and we don’t hang out in there. So I have never given it as much as I should. Advise away…
That’s it for this week’s update. Have a great weekend!
