Though I’m not by nature, one for brevity, let’s embrace it for this little update of sorts. Last week I shared one of the only 2 salad dressing recipes I really ever use. And I gave you a teaser for the other one. The follow-up today is my Homemade Ranch. I ALWAYS have this in the fridge. When I serve salads to our 10 or so person team that meets on Tuesdays, they eat the whole dang pint-sized mason jar. Honestly, it’s kind of disgusting how much ranch dressing they can consume. Not the salad dressing, it’s delicious.
So here you go for round two!
Go-To Homemade Ranch Dressing Recipe:
1 cup of mayo (If you want to make homemade, see below for an immersion blender version)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder (I usually add more!)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 coarse ground black pepper
Up to 1 TBSP parsley flakes (Feel free to add your favorites…chives…dill)
1/2 c or a little more Buttermilk (I also used coconut milk during Whole30, shockingly delicious)
Dump in your blender and blend up. I’d start with a 1/4 c of buttermilk and continue to add until it is the consistency you want. Just know the more buttermilk, the more of the seasonings you will prob need to adjust up.
If you have an immersion blender, you can make it even fresher and healthier. Take a pint mason jar and put in one large egg, 1 TBSP. of red wine vinegar, and 1 cup of avocado oil. Now go back up and continue following the ingredients after the mayo. Just dump ’em in. Stick your immersion blender down to the bottom and blend while slowly pulling it to the top. Check your consistency and seasoning and that is it! This is my personal favorite way to make it.
Seriously. That’s it. Check the seasoning to see if it tastes like what you want. Sometimes I get fancy and make a more herbaceous (ahem, herby), version. You can use fresh herbs such as dill and chives. Or I add more pepper to make peppercorn ranch. Or avocado, lime, and cumin. But the secret to getting the Hidden Valley’esque flavor is the onion powder. I always thought it was the herbs. But nope. Onion powder.
There you have it. Staples in our house. Hope you love them as much as we do!
